The Junior Badminton Pathway at the Royal Glenora Club

Badminton is more than just a sport—it’s a lifelong activity that builds fitness, coordination, confidence, and community. At the Royal Glenora Club, our Junior Badminton Pathway is designed to guide players from their very first swing to high-performance competition, all within a fun, safe, and inclusive environment.

Rooted in the Long-Term Athlete Development Model, our pathway focuses on building physical literacy and fundamental skills that prepare athletes for success both on and off the court. Whether your child wants to play for fun, make their school team, or pursue badminton at a provincial or national level, there’s a place for them here.

Mini Shuttlers (Ages 4–5)

Every great athlete starts with the basics. In Mini Shuttlers, our youngest players are introduced to forehand and backhand contact points through playful activities using balloons and shuttlecocks. Running, jumping, skipping, lunging, and catching are all part of the fun as children develop agility, balance, and coordination.

Junior Fundamentals (Ages 6–8)

Once players are ready, they progress to Junior Fundamentals, where they learn the forehand V-grip and backhand thumb grip, explore serving techniques, and begin to experience rally play. The focus is on building strong foundations while keeping the joy of play alive.

Junior Learn to Play (Ages 8–11)

Here, badminton truly comes to life. With a growing emphasis on footwork and shot combinations, participants start learning the rules, boundaries, and basic strategies of the game for half court singles.

Teen Learn to Play (Ages 12–17)

For teens discovering the sport a little later, this program provides the perfect entry point. Players develop core strokes and footwork, advancing to rally drills with singles and doubles strategies. It’s a welcoming program that prepares teens for recreational or competitive play at higher levels.

Junior Competitive Training (Ages 9–14)

This stage introduces players to the excitement of competition. With a strong foundation in strokes and footwork, athletes begin exploring strategies and preparing for their first tournaments at the Club or regional level. The focus is on building confidence, sportsmanship, and readiness for the competitive stream.

Junior Performance+ (Ages 10–14)

Designed for athletes with dedication and drive, Junior Performance sharpens accuracy, consistency, and fitness. Goal setting, advanced training, and tournament preparation take center stage. This program requires coach approval to ensure athletes are ready for the next step toward high-level play.

High Performance & Elite (Ages 14+)

At the top of the pathway, athletes refine their techniques and strategies to excel in provincial and national-level tournaments. Training is tailored to enhance physical conditioning, tactical decision-making, and mental resilience. With coach assessment, players are fully equipped to perform at their highest potential.

Our Philosophy

At the Royal Glenora Club, we believe badminton should be fun, inclusive, and rewarding for every child. Our pathway is built to help juniors progress at their own pace—whether that means playing socially with friends or striving for the podium. Along the way, athletes develop not only their badminton skills, but also confidence, resilience, and friendships that last a lifetime.
