Celebrating Excellence: 2025 Junior Awards Night at the Royal Glenora Club

On the evening of June 9, 2025, the Royal Glenora Club proudly came together to celebrate the achievements, passion, and dedication of our young athletes at the annual Junior Awards. From early mornings at practice to standout performances in competition, our juniors continue to inspire with their commitment to excellence in sport and character.

Families, coaches, and staff gathered to recognize the incredible accomplishments of athletes across Aquatics, Badminton, Figure Skating, Squash, and Tennis. It was a night filled with proud moments, loud cheers, and heartfelt applause as we honoured the next generation of champions and leaders in our RGC community.

Fred Miller Award

Uxia Gonzalez-Abraldes: Uxia Gonzalez-Abraldes is the 2025 Skate AB Novice Women U17 Champion. She won bronze at Nationals and proudly represented Canada at the Maria Olszewska Memorial in Łódź, Poland, placing 5th. With gold medals at Wildrose, Fall Invitational, and Provincials, Uxia’s season was a remarkable display of talent and determination.

Achievement Award

  • Uxia Gonzalez-Abraldes: At the 2025 Skate AB Provincials, Uxia Gonzalez-Abraldes dominated the Novice Women event, winning both the short and long programs with five impressive triple jumps. She earned bronze at the National Championships and was proudly selected by Skate Canada to represent Canada at the Maria Olszewska Memorial in Poland, placing 5th.

  • Amelie Savage: Amelie Savage has had a standout 2025 season, proving herself as one of our brightest young talents. She earned ITF points at the Edmonton J60 and Kamloops J30, won the doubles title at the Victoria J30, and secured her first-ever ITF Tour point at the Edmonton National Bank Challenger—a rare and impressive feat. Congratulations, Amelie! Your determination and success continue to inspire.

Rose Bowl Award

Uxia Gonzalez-Abraldes: Uxia Gonzalez-Abraldes delivered an exceptional season in the Novice Women U17 category. She won gold at Wildrose, Fall Invitational, and the 2025 Skate AB Provincial Championships. Uxia earned bronze at the 2025 Skate Canada Nationals and proudly placed 5th at her first international competition, selected by Skate Canada.

Halo Award

Arlet Gonzalez-Abraldes: Arlet Gonzalez-Abraldes is the 2025 Halo Award winner, voted #1 by peers and coaches. Passionate and hardworking, she continually strives for excellence while uplifting others with her kindness and positivity. Arlet supports fellow skaters during training and events and generously volunteers in our Learn to Skate programs. Congratulations, Arlet!

Phil Allard Award

Sharlise Wu: Sharlise has shown exceptional dedication both on and off the court, excelling in badminton while maintaining a strong focus on her academics. She has had some great success in the Provincial Gold level circuit this season, including a top 4 finish in girl’s doubles. Sharlise also claimed the doubles and mixed doubles titles for this year’s club championships. In addition to her own training, Sharlise has also now accepted a camp leadership role to help guide our younger athletes at the club. She is a great role model and ambassador for badminton at the RGC. We look forward to seeing her future success!

Ian Paton Award

Alp Zahedzadeh: Alp has displayed exceptional commitment and sportsmanship in his squash. He is an excellent example of true sportsmanship and demonstrates a strong work ethic to his peers. Alp continually strives to better his game by developing his skill set and applying what he is taught through lessons and programs. It is with great pleasure that we award Alp with the Ian Paton Award.

Brian Francis Award

Amelie Savage: Amelie Savage receives this year’s Brian Francis Award for her outstanding leadership, initiative, and commitment to our tennis community. As one of the youngest in Canada to earn her Club Pro 1 certification, she stands out as both a top competitor and a dedicated mentor. Her passion, professionalism, and drive continue to inspire the next generation. Congratulations, Amelie!

Pauline Ingall Award

Jacob Pfliger: Jacob consistently gives 100% in training and stands out for his respectful attitude and dedication. Beyond his personal performance, he contributes by helping coach younger players in our junior programs, demonstrating leadership and a genuine commitment to the development of others. His positive influence and work ethic make him a role model in the Club.
