Skating Skating

The Royal Glenora Club is proud to offer CanSkate programs designed by Skate Canada. New skaters begin with our Pre-CanSkate program and then work up from the primary level to CanSkate. From there, skaters can continue to skate for fun or begin to skate in competitions. The RGC’s coaching staff has trained world-class competitors in figure and power skating. Will you be the next champion?

The Royal Glenora Club is proud to be a registered

Below, please find a promotional video from Skate Canada promoting their CanSkate program. In this video, Patrick Chan  three-time World Champion, two-time Olympic Silver Medallist, and CanSkate graduate  tells us about what being involved with CanSkate means to him. Your child's safety on the ice is our top priority at the Royal Glenora Club. Please click here to read about Skate Canada's Helmet Use Policy, which is in effect at all times while on ice at the Club.

CanSkate is the flagship program of Skate Canada. Designed to teach children the basics of skating, CanSkate gives young skaters the opportunity to develop basic skills, participate in on-ice activities, and, most importantly, have fun! CanSkate helps little ones develop sports and physical literacy and the skills needed to help them pursue various other on-ice sports, such as figure skating and hockey.
  • Skaters learn vrious balance, control and agility skills that will prepare them for any ice skating sport or recreational skating.
  • Program features nationally certified coaches trained specifically in teaching the mechanics and proper technique of skating.
  • Provides kids with the best foundation to put their skills to use in ice sports, such as figure skating, hockey, speed skating, and ringette.
  • Introduces and promotes kids to begin healthy, lifelong activity at an early age.
  • Promotes fun, fitness, and participation.

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition  this is what STARSkate is all about!

STARSkate provides skaters with an opportunity to futher develop their skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate, and interpretive skating. This program works progressively, which encourages skaters to skate their way through different levels and awards. STARSkate also puts skaters through nationally-recognized standardized testing to ensure that they are getting the most from their figure skating education.

Being educated through the STARSkate program allows skaters the opportunity to make their skating goals become a reality. With STARSkate, skaters will:

  • Have the opporunity to be recognized through the nationally standardized testing system for achieving specific figure skating skills.
  • Be welcomed to invitational and interclub figure skating competitions, including STARSkate's championship stream.
  • Have the chance to attend STARSkate functions and events.
  • Have the opportunity to take their training to the next level by being talent scouted.
  • Have the opportunity for personal growth.
  • Learn life skills, such as goal-setting, self-discipline, commitment, time management, confidence, and learning to deal with success and failure.

Skating is an activity that should be enjoyed by all Canadians at any age! Even if you didn't get the chance to learn how to skate as a child, it's never too late; our coaches would love to show you the ropes and help you find your on-ice footing!
